Reclaim Solana From Unused Token Accounts: How to Close Them

Sold or sent your tokens? There may still be SOL in the accounts they left behind. Sol Incinerator helps you close those empty accounts and get the deposits back, while keeping the tokens and NFTs you still own.

How do I close token accounts and reclaim SOL?

Connect your wallet to Sol Incinerator and select the empty accounts you're finished with. We'll show how much SOL you can get back and prepare the cleanup. Approve it in your wallet to release the deposits. Use Fun Mode to keep your tokens and NFTs.

Why empty accounts still hold SOL

A token account needs a SOL deposit, called rent, when it's created. Selling or sending its tokens doesn't necessarily close the account, so that deposit can stay there long after you've moved on.

Sol Incinerator can recover deposits from supported empty SPL Token and Token-2022 accounts. Some accounts also have excess rent you can withdraw without closing them.

Why 0.002 SOL?

0.002 SOL is the rounded deposit of a standard token account opened under Solana's original rent setting: exactly 0.00203928 SOL. At the rent setting live in October 2026, a new account needs 0.00148844 SOL, and further cuts are planned. Older accounts keep their original balance until they're closed or their excess is withdrawn. The rent table lists the deposit for each account type.

Get more of the deposit back

Keep more of your recovered SOL with our 2% base fee. Our comparison with RefundYourSol's standard rate shows the difference on the same accounts.

Checking your wallet with Sol Incinerator is free. You'll see the amount after fees before approving, and the SOL is ready to use once cleanup confirms.

Why won't my token account close?

It shows $0, but still has tokens

A token can be worth less than a cent and still have a balance. Check the number of tokens, rather than the dollar value. Most token accounts need to be empty before they can close.

Keep or transfer tokens you want. If you choose to burn unwanted tokens, that destroys them permanently.

The wrong wallet is connected

Switch to the wallet that owns the account. If the account has a separate close authority, that address needs to approve the closure instead. Paying to create an account doesn't give you control over it.

The token is frozen or has extra closure rules

A frozen account with tokens still in it may need thawing before those tokens can move or burn. Only the token's freeze authority can thaw it. An empty frozen account can sometimes close without thawing; see our frozen-token guide.

Some Token-2022 accounts also hold withheld transfer fees that need clearing before closure. Our Token-2022 guide covers these extra requirements.

A bot still uses the account

An empty account may be waiting for the next trade. Autocompounder protects input accounts while they still have a spending allowance. Leave those accounts open if you want the strategy to keep running.

My wallet has no SOL for the network fee

Gasless Pay is automatic! When your cleanup qualifies, we'll cover the upfront network fee and take the quoted charge from the SOL you recover, alongside the cleanup fee. You don't have to send SOL into the wallet first.

Only some of my accounts closed

A large cleanup can use several transactions. If you closed the wallet prompt or lost connection partway through, some may have finished already.

Check which transactions confirmed, then scan again and select the accounts that remain. This avoids retrying work that's already done.

Old Serum trading accounts

If you traded on Solana DEXs in the Serum days, your wallet may still hold Serum OpenOrders accounts. Each one holds a much bigger deposit than a token account: 0.02335776 SOL when it was opened under the legacy rent setting. Sol Incinerator finds Serum v3 OpenOrders accounts with no open orders or unsettled balances, and Pro Mode's Reclaim tab lists them under Serum Accounts so you can close them with the rest.

Can I close token accounts with the spl-token CLI?

Yes, if you're comfortable on the command line. Solana's spl-token tool can close accounts you own:

spl-token accounts -v
spl-token close --address <TOKEN_ACCOUNT_ADDRESS>
spl-token gc --close-empty-associated-accounts

The first command lists your token accounts with their balances, the second closes one account, and the third cleans up in bulk: it closes empty associated accounts and folds extra accounts for the same token into the main one, skipping frozen ones. Add --program-2022 for Token-2022 accounts.

The catch is signing. Unless you sign with a Ledger, the CLI needs your wallet's secret, either as a keypair file or typed in as your recovery phrase. For a browser wallet, that means taking its secret out of the wallet.

With Sol Incinerator, you approve in the wallet you already use and your key never leaves it. We find the eligible accounts, show what you'll get back, and in Pro Mode burn unwanted tokens and close their accounts in one step. Gasless Pay covers the network fee when your cleanup qualifies. With the CLI you pay only network fees; our cleanup fee comes out of the SOL you recover.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will I lose my tokens or NFTs?

Closing an empty account doesn't burn the assets in your other accounts. Use Fun Mode for cleanup without burning. If you decide to burn an asset in Pro Mode, that is permanent.

How much SOL does each account return?

It depends on the SOL still in that account. Deposits vary, and some may have had excess rent withdrawn already. The preview shows what you'll receive after the charges for your selection.

Can I get SOL back without closing the account?

Sometimes. If an account holds more SOL than its required storage reserve, you may be able to withdraw the excess and keep it open. Sol Incinerator checks for supported excess-rent recovery too.

Do I need to share my recovery phrase?

No. Connect your wallet and approve the transaction there. Never enter your recovery phrase or private key into a cleanup website.

Why do my token accounts hold 0.002 SOL?

A standard token account opened under Solana's original rent setting holds 0.00203928 SOL as a refundable deposit, which rounds to 0.002. Accounts opened after the 2026 rent reduction need less. Closing an empty account with Sol Incinerator returns the SOL it holds, minus our cleanup fee.
