You may be able to get SOL back without selling or burning anything. Solana's lower rent reserve can leave extra SOL in older token accounts, including accounts holding tokens you want to keep. Sol Incinerator checks for that surplus and helps you reclaim it.
What does Solana's rent reduction mean for my wallet?
Solana accounts need a SOL deposit to cover their storage. When the required deposit falls, an older account can hold more SOL than it needs. You can withdraw eligible excess through Sol Incinerator while keeping the account open and its tokens untouched. The amount depends on your account's balance and size.
“Rent” is the storage deposit, rather than a monthly bill. Lower reserves reduce the SOL needed to create new accounts and can free up part of the deposit in accounts that already exist.
What's live now?
Checked October 6, 2026 at 21:02 UTC: finalized mainnet RPC returned the following minimum balances. They match the second reduction step, at 5,080 lamports per byte, counting each account's data plus 128 bytes of overhead.
| Account | Data size | Checked minimum balance |
|---|---|---|
| Classic token mint | 82 bytes | 0.001066800 SOL |
| Standard token account | 165 bytes | 0.001488440 SOL |
| Token multisig | 355 bytes | 0.002453640 SOL |
These are storage reserves, not recovery quotes. Token-2022 extensions can make an account larger; our account-type reference explains the sizes.
SIMD-0437 sets out five separate reductions:
| Step | Lamports per effective byte | Status in our October 6 check |
|---|---|---|
| Legacy setting | 6,960 | Historical baseline |
| 1 | 6,333 | Activated |
| 2 | 5,080 | Activated; matches the checked reserve |
| 3 | 2,575 | Not active |
| 4 | 1,322 | Not active |
| 5 | 696 | Not active; final target |
The final target is a 90% reduction from the legacy setting. Each step activates separately, and the rollout can pause or reverse. The current reserve is what matters for your claim.
How much could you get back?
Take a standard token account that still holds its legacy deposit of 0.002039280 SOL. With the checked reserve of 0.001488440 SOL, it has 0.000550840 SOL above the minimum.
For 100 accounts with those exact balances, that's about 0.0551 SOL available before recovery fees and network or sponsorship costs. Your accounts may hold different balances or have had surplus withdrawn already.
Sol Incinerator checks the actual accounts and shows what you'll receive after the charges for your selection. Our base recovery fee is 2%; applicable minimums and other charges are included in the quote.
Gasless Pay is automatic! When your claim qualifies, we cover the upfront network fee and take the quoted sponsorship charge from the SOL you recover, alongside the recovery fee. You don't have to top up the wallet first.
Reclaim the excess and keep your tokens
Open Sol Incinerator, connect your wallet and stay in Fun Mode. Choose the available excess-rent claims, check the SOL you'll get back and approve the cleanup in your wallet. You can keep holding the tokens or NFTs in those accounts.
The withdrawal moves only SOL above the account's required reserve. Your token balance stays the same and the account stays open. The excess-rent walkthrough covers the process in more detail.
If you're finished with an empty account, closing it can return its remaining deposit instead. You don't need to keep an unused account open just to wait for another rent reduction.
Why some accounts have nothing to claim
An account created at the lower reserve may already hold exactly what it needs. An earlier withdrawal can leave it at that minimum too.
Ownership also matters: holding a token doesn't give you authority over its mint account. Wrapped-SOL accounts and NFT metadata accounts aren't eligible for this excess-rent withdrawal.
If another reduction happens, check again. An account you kept open may have more SOL to reclaim, even if you claimed from it before.
