Sol Burner: Burn Solana Tokens and NFTs, Get SOL Back

Dead memecoins, spam tokens and NFTs from projects that went quiet usually sit in accounts that hold a SOL deposit. Sell or burn the asset and close the account, and that deposit is paid out to you. A sol burner (also searched as solburner or Solana burner) does the burning and closing for you.

What does a sol burner do?

A sol burner runs two on-chain steps. A burn permanently destroys the tokens you choose, and a close shuts the now-empty account so its rent deposit returns to you as SOL. Solana won't close an account that still holds tokens, so burning unlocks the deposit.

Accounts you've already emptied by selling or sending the token don't need a burn at all. Closing them destroys nothing, which is why Sol Incinerator's default Fun Mode starts there.

What do you get back for each asset?

What comes back is the deposit held by the accounts that close, minus our fee. How big that deposit is depends on the asset and on when the account was opened, because Solana lowered its rent rate twice in September 2026.

AssetWhat comes back (before fees)
Empty SPL Token accountIts deposit: 0.00203928 SOL if opened under the original rent setting, 0.00148844 SOL if opened at the current rate (checked October 7, 2026)
Unwanted fungible or LP tokenThe same token-account deposit, after the burn
Token-2022 tokenUsually a 170-byte account: 0.00207408 SOL (original rate) or 0.00151384 SOL (current rate), more if extensions add data
Standard or programmable NFTVaries by standard and by which of its accounts the burn can close
Bonfida (.sol) domainThe domain account's own deposit
Compressed NFTNothing: it has no token account or deposit, so burning only removes it

Our 2% base fee means most of each deposit comes back to you. Minimum fees for token accounts and for standard and programmable NFTs raise the rate on newer accounts, Token-2022 accounts and NFT burns, programmable NFTs most of all. The preview shows what reaches your wallet before you approve, and our rent table has the exact reserves for common accounts.

What should a good sol burner support?

  • Both token programs. Token-2022 accounts have made up most of the empty accounts we close every month since December 2025, according to our closure data, so a burner needs to handle SPL Token and Token-2022.
  • The NFTs you actually hold. Standard NFTs, programmable NFTs, editions and compressed NFTs each burn differently.
  • Safety controls. Valuable assets should be hard to burn by accident, and large burns should ask twice.
  • A free, read-only scan. You should see what's there and what you'd get back before signing anything.

Sending tokens to Solana's incinerator address doesn't burn them or return any SOL; it strands them. Burn tokens from your own wallet instead. If some are already stuck there, our burn address guide shows how the stuck tokens tool burns them for 0.5 SOL plus the network fee, with no SOL back.

How do you burn tokens with Sol Incinerator?

  1. Open Sol Incinerator and connect your wallet. Fun Mode closes empty accounts and withdraws eligible surplus deposits without burning anything.
  2. Switch to Pro Mode to burn tokens, NFTs, editions, compressed NFTs and .sol domains. Assets above a value threshold are hidden by default, and large burns ask for an extra confirmation. LP tokens have their own tab in Dev mode.
  3. Select what you want gone, check the preview, and approve in your wallet. Burns can't be undone, so swap anything that still has a market and leave anything you don't recognize. Bigger selections can take more than one approval.

No SOL for the network fee? Gasless Pay covers it automatically when your burn or cleanup qualifies and takes its charge from the SOL that comes back.

Burn it or sell it?

If a token still has a working market, swap it first: you keep the sale value and can still close the account afterwards. For assets you paid for that now have no buyers at all, the Tax Loss Harvester sells illiquid tokens and NFTs for 1 lamport each. Nothing here is tax advice; check with a tax professional about your situation.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a sol burner?

A sol burner is a tool that permanently destroys Solana tokens and NFTs you no longer want and closes the accounts that held them, so their rent deposits come back to you as SOL. Accounts that are already empty can simply be closed, with nothing burned.

How much SOL does burning a token give back?

Burning a token and closing its account returns that account's deposit, before fees. A standard SPL token account holds 0.00203928 SOL if it was opened under Solana's original rent setting, or 0.00148844 SOL if opened at the rate checked October 7, 2026. Token-2022 accounts hold slightly more, NFTs vary, and compressed NFTs return nothing.

Is burning tokens on Solana reversible?

No. A burn permanently destroys the tokens on-chain, and no tool, developer or support team can restore them. Swap anything that still has a market first, and only burn assets you are sure you no longer want. Closing an empty account, by contrast, destroys nothing.

Do I need to burn a token to get its rent back?

Only if the account still holds a balance, because Solana won't close an account that isn't empty. If you already sold or sent the token, the empty account can be closed directly in Sol Incinerator's Fun Mode, with nothing burned and the deposit returned.
