LP Burned: What It Means and How to Burn LP Tokens on Solana

You found a new token, and the trading screen says "LP burned." Here's what that badge proves, how to check it yourself, and how to burn LP tokens of your own, whether you're locking your pool or clearing dead positions to get SOL back.

What does LP burned mean?

LP burned means the liquidity provider (LP) tokens for a token's pool were destroyed on-chain. LP tokens are the claim on the pooled liquidity, so once they're burned nobody can redeem them to withdraw that liquidity. It protects the pool's liquidity, not everything else about the token.

When someone adds liquidity to a classic Solana pool, the pool mints LP tokens to them as a receipt for their share. Redeeming those LP tokens is the only way to take that share back out. If the token's creator burns the LP tokens from their launch, the liquidity they put in can never be withdrawn, by them or anyone else. That is why trading screens and token scanners show "LP burned" as a percentage: it is the share of the LP supply that can no longer pull liquidity.

What LP burned doesn't protect against

A burned LP closes one door. It doesn't make a token safe on its own:

  • Big holders can still sell. If the creator or a few wallets hold a large share of the token supply, selling it can crash the price even though the pool's liquidity stays put.
  • More tokens can be minted. If the mint authority is still active, new supply can be created and sold into the pool. See what a revoked mint authority means.
  • Accounts can be frozen. An active freeze authority can freeze holders' token accounts so they can't sell.
  • Token-2022 settings still apply. Mint-level extensions such as a permanent delegate or transfer fees aren't touched by an LP burn.
  • Other pools aren't covered. A token can trade in several pools, and a burn covers only the pool whose LP was burned.
  • Not every pool has LP tokens. Concentrated-liquidity positions are recorded as position NFTs or position accounts rather than fungible LP tokens, so there's no LP supply to check. Raydium can lock a full-range position NFT instead, so look for that lock.

How do you check if LP is burned?

You don't have to trust the badge. Check the LP mint itself:

  1. Find the pool and its LP mint. Open the pool on the DEX or in an explorer. The pool lists its LP mint address.
  2. Check the LP supply. Open that mint in Solscan or Solana Explorer. A real burn lowers the LP mint's total supply, and the mint's history shows Burn instructions. Our guide to verifying a burn on Solscan shows what to look for.
  3. See where the rest of the supply sits. Look at the largest holders of the LP mint. LP still sitting in the creator's wallet can be redeemed later.
  4. Watch for "burned" that is really a transfer or a lock. Sending LP tokens to a burn address such as 1nc1nerator11111111111111111111111111111111 strands them, but it doesn't reduce the supply. Raydium's Burn & Earn locks LP tokens in a program-owned escrow instead of destroying them: the lock is permanent, but the supply stays the same, so look for that escrow among the holders.
  5. Check the token itself too. Look at the token's mint authority, freeze authority and top holders before you buy.

How do you burn LP tokens with Sol Incinerator?

People burn LP tokens for two reasons. Token creators burn their own LP to lock their pool's liquidity for good. Holders burn LP tokens from pools that are already empty, so they can close the token account and get its SOL deposit back.

Burning LP tokens is permanent. They are your only claim on the liquidity in that pool. If the pool still holds anything, withdraw it through the DEX first. Only burn LP from pools you've confirmed are empty, or from your own pool when you mean to lock it forever.

LP burning lives in Dev mode, the power-user mode on Sol Incinerator's mode toggle.

  1. Connect your wallet on Sol Incinerator.
  2. Switch to Dev mode with the mode toggle, then open the LP tab.
  3. Select the LP tokens to burn. Double-check that each one comes from an empty pool, or from the pool you intend to lock. The LP tab can also show concentrated-liquidity position NFTs; those are your claim on a position too, so withdraw any liquidity before you burn one.
  4. Review and approve in your wallet. The LP tokens are burned and their token accounts closed, so their SOL deposits come back to you.

Each account returns the SOL it holds, which depends mostly on when it was opened, and our cleanup fee comes out of what you recover. We show what you'll get back after fees before you approve. While you're there, switch back to Fun Mode and close the empty accounts that old trades left behind; the account recovery guide covers that.

Why can't I sell LP tokens from a rugged project?

LP tokens aren't traded like the token itself. They are receipts for a share of one pool, worth only what that share can be redeemed for. When a project drains its pool, the LP tokens point at an empty vault, and no one will buy a claim on nothing. Burning them doesn't bring back what was drained, but it clears the clutter and returns each account's SOL deposit. For the rest of the cleanup after a rug, see how to reclaim SOL from rugged meme coins.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does LP burned mean?

It means the liquidity provider tokens for a token's pool were destroyed on-chain. Those LP tokens are the claim on the pooled liquidity, so once they are burned nobody can redeem them to pull that liquidity out of the pool. On Raydium, Burn & Earn instead locks LP permanently in escrow, so the LP supply doesn't fall.

Does LP burned mean a token can't be rugged?

No. A burned LP stops the liquidity in that pool from being withdrawn, but holders can still sell large balances, an active mint authority can create new supply and an active freeze authority can freeze accounts. Check the mint and freeze authority and the biggest holders too.

How do I check if LP is burned on Solana?

Find the pool's LP mint, then look at it in an explorer. A burn shows up as Burn instructions in the mint's history and a lower total supply. LP sent to an address nobody controls is stranded rather than burned, so check where the remaining supply sits.

Should I burn LP tokens from a dead pool?

Only if the pool is truly empty. LP tokens are your claim on whatever the pool still holds, so withdraw through the DEX if anything is left. When nothing is left, burning them lets you close the token account and get its SOL deposit back.
